Open Subtitles is one of the most popular portals to download subtitles for movies. The primary reason behind it is that it features a variety of subtitles (a huge collection of it). Not just judging by the numbers – you will find subtitles for a bunch of foreign languages.

The website does include advertisements but not much that it annoys you. However, you should note that when you try downloading a subtitle on this website, it prompts you to install an add-on (for Chrome/Firefox) to get rid of the advertisements. But, that is simply not true. So, that is a bit deceiving.

Ignoring the annoying pop-up, the subtitle download starts right after you click on the download button. I did not encounter any pop-up ads (except the prompt to install the add-on) when I downloaded a subtitle to test.

Subscene is yet another recommended site where you can get the subtitles from. When compared to Open Subtitle, you will not encounter an unnecessary pop up while downloading a subtitle file.The website provides a better user experience than Open Subtitles. Similar to every other subtitle downloading website, it offers some of the latest and greatest subtitles. However, you may notice that the variety of subtitles available on Subscene is a bit underwhelming compared to Open Subtitles.

If you are looking for a popular movie – you will get it. If it is specific, we would advise you to search through every website mentioned here.

English Subtitles

An alternative to other websites mentioned above. It offers a similar scale of the database with a variety of subtitles available for movies and TV Shows. The website’s user interface may not be the best around – with lots of advertisements that may look like legit content. Ignoring that, it’s easy to download a subtitle.

However, I should mention that you need to press the download button twice. It takes you to the same page with a re-named button to let you download. Well, if you’ve got adblockers – they might block the annoying ads. Personally, it did not bother me. You will get subtitles for foreign languages as well (including English).

So, we will definitely recommend you this as one of the best ways to download movie subtitles for free.

YIFY Subtitles

YIFY subtitles are no way related to YIFY torrents (in case you are wondering). Similar to the other websites mentioned above, the advertisements might annoy you. Fret not, you will not encounter any pop-up ads – but the usual clickbaity content ads.

If you are using Firefox with content blocking enabled, you won’t notice it. If you don’t mind the ads – you get a variety of subtitles on this site. You can even see some regional subtitles available in the image above.

SRT Subtitle

If you have nowhere else to go – you can try searching for subtitles here. It may not be the best subtitle portal- but I didn’t find any ads on it. I’m not sure if they had it disabled then – so you can try it for yourself.

It was interesting to see some subtitles listed at SRT subtitle which wasn’t available on other mentioned sites. Even though that depends on what you are searching for – it is still something to note.

It is obvious that you will encounter advertisements on websites offering free subtitles. So, if you worry about that – it is best to enable content blocking on Firefox or utilize an Ad Blocker to get rid of those annoying ads.
